Understanding why you make poor decisions isn’t helpful by itself. You need to develop the strength to fight the enemies of clear thinking. This week we detailed the characteristics we need to build strength and win the fight against our monkey brains. Here are the takeaways:
My favorite line from Part 2: “Champions don’t create the standards off excellence, The standards of excellence create champions” (76)
My favorite passage from Part 2:
If you want to better understand your level of self-knowledge, ask yourself how many times a day you utter the phrase ‘I don’t know.’ If you never say, ‘I don’t know,’ you’re probably dismissing things that surprise you or explaining away outcomes instead of understanding them.” (56)
To become mentally strong, we need to:
Hold ourselves accountable
Learn our strengths and weaknesses
Control ourselves
Be confident in ourselves
Hold ourselves to a high standard
If you’re having trouble with these five pillars of strength, there’s a great trick I like called a “personal board of directors”. Find people of high character and emulate their actions in the fields they excel in.
These cover the main points addressed in the past 8 days. Click on a link below to reread your favorite short pieces On Building Strength
