SAPIENS INTRO
Sapiens is one of the most “new idea”-dense books I’ve ever read. Harari walks us through the history of humanity, from a time we were indistinguishable from wild animals, to the creation of Artificial Intelligence.
There’s a mountain of information I never knew before reading Sapiens. Harari explains each big idea well enough for you to understand it without boring you to death. Then before you know it, he bends your mind again.
Sapiens splits human history into four sections:
The Cognitive Revolution
The Agricultural Revolution
The Unification of Humankind
The Scientific Revolution
The way we’re tackling this book will be similar to how we organized Clear Thinking.
Each section will have an introduction email. That email will explain the key aspects of the upcoming section of the book. This will give an overview of each period of history to provide context.
The sections are split into chapters. Each chapter will have one email, but it will be a new style. In Sapiens, each chapter has multiple ideas and I will be choosing 2-3 ideas for each email. Each idea will be in the form of a question with a short answer.
At the end of each section, we’ll have a recap of the ideas we learned about and the key takeaways from this section of our history.
A NEW BIG NERDS CHALLENGE!!!
Sapiens is our longest book yet! At 446 pages, we need a reading pace of ~15 pages per day to finish by the end of the month.
Does that sound easy? no…
Have you ever read that much in your life? no…
Do you want a team to help keep you accountable to your reading plans? YES..
Well lucky for you, we’re starting a BigNerds Accountability Group. If you’ve been trying to read along in the past but always seem to fall behind and give up, REPLY to this email with the word ‘ACCOUNTABILITY’.
I’ll add you to a group chat where each person will text a thumbs up when they’ve finished their daily reading. I’ll be monitoring and checking in with anybody who misses two days in a row. If you think not disappointing me is a good motivator for you to read, this might work for you.
But as always, if you don’t want to read along or can’t find time, that’s completely fine. The emails are still designed to teach anyone - reading along or not.

Writing for the BigNerds is one of my favorite parts of my day. And without you guys, it wouldn’t be the same. So thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
PPS. If you’re interested in the Accountability Group, reply “BIGNERD” to this email.
