“you’d even rather have a failed real person that a successful one, as blemishes, scars, and character flaws increase the distance between a human and a ghost” (Taleb, 122)
If you don’t believe this, there’s no better example that Donald Trump. If you find yourself wondering how Trump found his way to the head of the Republican party in his first presidential campaign and then won the election, it’s because he was real.
He spoke without dancing on eggshells. He evidently had nobody else writing his speeches for him. He had public failures. He was a real person, not a ghost.
Moral of the story: Stop trying to look perfect. It won’t work. It makes you less human. Less real.
